About

Issues Jim will pledge:

1

As your Mayor I will take ownership of the homeless living in tents in the HRM(Halifax Regional Municipality) by improving relations  with the Provincial and Federal Governments and a stronger committment to those who are homeless and no homeless person will be left behind.

Also the Public concern about the safety surrounding the tent locations will be better addressed and the rule of law must be adhered to when appropriate for Public Safety.

I do not support the Point Pleasant Park and Commons designated tent encampments.

I will support and encourage HRM efforts to build modular homes and support finding temporary sites in HRM which do not include boulevards , public parks, or areas near residential neighborhoods, playgrounds, and schools.

2

As your Mayor if elected I will be stronger in addressing violence in HRM particularly the urban core which is unacceptable with shootings of children and mass shootings like the Africville  community.

As your Mayor I will accellerate the urgency of photo radar in HRM and negotiate with the Provincial Government for support.

3

As your Mayor I will call for a moratorium on bike lanes and revisit the strategy for Active Transportation in HRM especially our lack of an efficient Transit system. Our busing system is not providing optimum service in the Urban Core and also the Rural and Suburban. More staff and route designations need to be upgraded.

4

The Liberal Carbon Tax has made it difficult for HRM and also the HRM Council tax levied at 3 per cent for HaliFACT is not warranted in my opinion during these difficult times for HRM and as your Mayor I will strongly pursue this issue.

I will not freeze taxes as your Mayor because that means cuts to services, but I do believe in maintaining a tax which “keeps the lights on”and is fair and reasonable.

5

As your Mayor I will pay particular attention to all the communities in HRM by holding your Councilors accountable and meeting with the Councillors individually throughout their term of office. This will be a stronger team effort by Council to move items forward in a more effecient way. Our HRM residents must be better informed.

6

As your Mayor I will work with the Suburban, and especially Rural HRM communities who need a fresh approach to address the increased population which is placing a increasing demand on services .
